NVCC offers preparation for upcoming high school SATs

WATERBURY, Conn. (Feb. 11, 2008) – High school sophomores and juniors who plan to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) this spring/summer can sign up now for courses in March and April at Naugatuck Valley Community College.  Courses will help students prepare for both the math and verbal/critical writing portions of the newly revamped college aptitude exam.

The sessions start on March 25 and April 30 and will be held on Wednesday nights for six weeks.  Students can sign up for the verbal/critical writing workshop from 5:30-7:00 p.m., the math workshop from 7:15-8:45 p.m., or both.  Sessions will also be held over the summer for those students taking the test in the fall.

The SAT is required by most colleges and universities as part of the admission process. The preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test provides firsthand practice and provides students with the opportunity to enter scholarship programs.  The preparation courses review test-taking strategies and problem solving techniques, and include practice sessions to help students gain a better understanding of the problems that commonly appear on the SAT.

The cost for each session is $139, which includes course materials.  Both classes will be held in the main campus at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.  For more information, visit www.nvcc.commnet.edu/testprep or contact Karen Blake at advancer@nvcc.commnet.edu or (203) 596-8711.

NVCC is a nonresidential public institution with more than 100 accredited programs leading to associate degrees or professional certification.  Located at the intersection of Route 8 and Interstate 84, the college serves more than 10,000 credit and non-credit students from 35 communities across western Connecticut.
