Tuition waived for senior citizens at NVCC
Registration begins Jan. 23 for spring semester

WATERBURY (Jan. 2, 2008) — Senior citizens interested in taking any credit course at Naugatuck Valley Community College for the spring semester that begins Jan. 23 can register starting that day — and have all of their tuition fees waived.

The waiver is available to anyone, age 62 and above, provided there is space available in a course at the end of the regular registration period. Seniors may have their tuition, college services fee and student activity fee waived, but they are still responsible for any laboratory fees and any required supplies.

Every semester, many seniors enroll in a variety of courses including those in a foreign language, computer technology, painting, drawing, literature and music. Some opt to pursue an associate’s degree or certificate in one of the dozens of academic programs available at the college. The waiver applies to credit courses only — not to the college’s non-credit courses, which are self-supporting and not funded with taxpayer dollars.

Seniors may register for spring credit courses anytime between Jan. 23-30 at the Admissions Office in Kinney Hall at the college’s main campus, located at 750 Chase Parkway off Exit 18 on Interstate 84.

Senior citizens who have never been a student at NVCC will also have to fill out a college application, available by visiting www.nvcc.commnet.edu or calling the Admissions Office at (203) 575-8294. Proof of age is required, preferably in the form of a driver’s license.

For more information or to receive a copy of the spring credit catalog, new students can call the Admissions Office at (203) 575-8294. Returning students should call the Records Office at (203) 596-2177. The catalog is also posted at www.nvcc.commnet.edu.

NVCC serves more than 5,600 students from 35 communities across western Connecticut from Litchfield to Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury.
