Arts events at NVCC in May
WATERBURY (April 13, 2007) — The following is the May arts calendar for Naugatuck Valley Community College, which serves 35 communities across western Connecticut from Litchfield to Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury:
FRIDAY, MAY 4
The Naugatuck Valley Community College Gospel Choir will hold its spring concert on Friday, May 4, at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage theatre in NVCC’s Fine Arts Center, located on its main campus at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. For more information, call (203) 575-8049.
SATURDAY, MAY 5
The Naugatuck Valley Community College Choir will perform Schubert's “Mass No.6” with an orchestra on Saturday, May 5, at 8 p.m. at The Church of the Immaculate Conception on The Green at 74 West Main Street, Waterbury.
The 62 members of the NVCC College Choir present Schubert's last and most powerful choral work, a work which has been compared to Mozart's “Requiem” and Beethoven's “Missa Solemnis.” A $10 donation is suggested at the door. For more information, call (203) 575-8039.

The Naugatuck Valley Community College Jazz Ensemble will hold its spring concert on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. in the Mainstage theatre in NVCC’s Fine Arts Center, located on its main campus at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
TUESDAY, MAY 8
The Naugatuck Valley Community College Concert Band will hold its spring concert on Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage theatre in NVCC’s Fine Arts Center, located on its main campus at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. For more information, call (203) 575-8049.
SATURDAY, MAY 12
The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra will perform Sunday, May 1, at Naugatuck Valley Community College with Russian piano soloist Gleb Ivonov.
Ivonov, who won the 2005 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, will play “Higdon’s Shine,” “Ravel Piano Concerto in G Major” and “Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade.” The 8 p.m. performance will be held in the Mainstage theater in NVCC’s Fine Arts Center, located on its main campus at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
