Arts events at NVCC in April

WATERBURY (March 17, 2007) — The following is the April arts calendar for Naugatuck Valley Community College, which serves 35 communities across western Connecticut from Litchfield to Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury:

MONDAY, APRIL 9

Monday, April 9, is the last day to buy tickets for the Naugatuck Valley Community College Foundation’s annual Mystery Dinner Theatre fundraiser on April 21, “The Backstage Murders.”

Starring an array of local leaders — including Waterbury Mayor Michael J. Jarjura and state Rep. Kevin DelGobbo — “The Backstage Murders” dares the audience to figure out who’s behind the untimely death of a cast member, while those cast members left alive do their best to try to fool the audience into thinking someone else is the guilty party.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. at The Grand Oak Villa, 550 Sylvan Lake Road, Oakville.

The event will also feature a silent auction. Cost is $65. Call (203) 575-8045.

For sponsorship information, call (203) 596-8676. Proceeds will benefit NVCC’s new Technology Building.

FRIDAY, APRIL 27

On Friday, April 27, Naugatuck Valley Community College will host an evening of entertainment as part of “The Big Read,” a program funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts to promote literacy with the reading and discussion of a single book in communities across the country.

“It’s a Sin to Kill a Mockingbird” is one of a series of events in April, May and June centered around the book Waterbury chose to read, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The event will include interpretive dance performances and dramatic readings from NVCC dance and theater students, as well as guest performers from theater and dance groups around the city.

It will be begin at 8 p.m. in NVCC’s Mainstage theater at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door to benefit arts scholarships for Waterbury students. For more information, call Elena Rusnak at (203) 575-8179.
