NVCC theater offers trio of plays for kids Oct. 12-14

New Zenith Theatre troupe targets younger audiences

WATERBURY (Oct. 2, 2006) — New Zenith Theatre, the Naugatuck Valley Community College theater company dedicated to performances for young audiences, will perform a trio of one-act plays Oct. 12-14 that are geared for children age 10 and older.

NVCC’s New Zenith Theatre troupe will perform ‘A Showcase of Shorts’ Oct. 12-14. The three one-act plays are geared to young people age 10 and up, and include ‘Puck’s Dream’ with (left to right) Kathleen Purcell (in background) Chris Stokes and Kadie Tolderlund.

“A Showcase of Shorts” will include:

  • “Cyrano,” by Belgian director/writer Jo Roets;
  • “Puck’s Dream,” an adaptation from Shakespeare by Ed Wierzbicki, New Zenith’s artistic director; and
  • “The Diary of Adam & Eve,” a musical adapted from the Mark Twain short story by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock.

“A Showcase of Shorts” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Oct. 12-14, in the Mainstage theater at NVCC, located at 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. There will also be a matinee on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m., as well as special school performances Friday, Oct. 13.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and children. The special school performances on Oct. 13 are $2 per person. Proceeds will benefit New Zenith’s upcoming exchange program this fall to Stockholm, Sweden, where the actors will perform their roles, and participate in an educational and cultural exchange with students from the Fredericka Bremer School.

Immediately following each performance, the actors will conduct a “talk back” session so the audience may learn more about the plays, New Zenith and the theater company’s exchange program.

New Zenith performers include: Torrington resident Naomi Lee; Waterbury resident Kathleen Purcell; Wallingford resident Maya Riether; Wolcott resident Kadie Tolderlund; Naugatuck resident Joe Grosso; Oakville resident Christopher Lafferty; Torrington resident Tim Lee; Waterbury resident Fred Lopez; Waterbury resident Doug Sobon; Wolcott resident Christopher Stokes; Middlebury resident Katie Cihal; Prospect resident Zack Pilat; Naugatuck resident Cortney Bergin; and Meriden resident Katie Keough.
