Fresh Start Option

Any student who has not attended Naugatuck Valley Community College for a period of two or more years and who wants to start over without the handicap of a grade point average of less than 2.0 may do so by invoking the Fresh Start Option. This Option removes all previous grades from the grade point average. Credit is kept for all courses passed with grades of “P, “C-”, or higher but with no grade. Any previous courses in which grades of “D+“ or lower were earned has no credit or grade. However, all courses and grades remain visible on the transcript.

A student accepted for enrollment under Fresh Start will return in the status of academic probation or suspension.

The Fresh Start Option does not apply to any completed degree or certificate.

A student must complete a minimum of 15 credits after return to college under the Fresh Start Option to be eligible for a degree or certificate, and for graduation honors.

A student may invoke Fresh Start Option only once at Naugatuck Valley Community College and must do so prior to or during the semester of readmission.
