Marketing
Production cycles for the various programs produced by OCM are tied to the three semesters of the academic year, one each for college-wide, credit and lifelong learning. Marketing and advertising efforts for the College maintain visibility in the 22 towns we serve throughout the year. As many as thirty different projects are in process at any given time at OCM, addressing the needs of the President’s Office, recruitment, events, registration and community programs. OCM handles all marketing, advertising and communications projects for print, outdoor, broadcast and special marketing programs.
Public Relations
Press Releases are issued based on programs and events as needed. The faculty is urged to submit to OCM stories of interest to the community, whether it is about student successes, plays, concerts or events, for placement in local, regional, state and national media.
Feature stories and press releases are written for noteworthy items within each publication, including calendar and community calendar items. OCM maintains close relationships with members of the media to insure that stories that deserve coverage get attention. Every effort is made to place every positive news story about the College with the appropriate media but we don’t claim to exert editorial influence over the press and it is solely their decision whether or not to run a particular story.
Campus-wide
As a division within the Office of the President, OCM works with students, faculty, staff, all divisions and all departments to advance the cause of the College’s many events and programs throughout the year with targeted groups (i.e., principals of high schools, superintendents of schools, the community at large, etc.)
OCM employs Best Practices and Standards promulgated by national organizations including the Public Relations Society of America and the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. OCM oversees the purchase of mailing lists for credit and lifelong learning, vendors for printing and advertising, all graphic design for the College and internal distribution of all new College publications. While OCM maintains the mailing databases and forwards them as needed to appropriate divisions and departments, we are not an in-house mailing agency. This task is best addressed by each unit as needed and we kindly offer our advice when requested.
